Wheatgerm oil is rich, nourishing, skin regenerative and is used as a natural preservative.
Latin Name |
Tritcum vulgare |
Origin | UK |
Wheatgerm oil is a rich, nourishing oil that is great for revitalizing dry skin due to its cell regenerative properties, especially for dry, mature and damaged skin. The unrefined oil has a strong odour and a fairly unpleasant smell, the germ oil contains a major percentage of EFA. It also contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B6 and E. Wheatgerm is a wonderful golden yellow to brown colour and it’s high in vitamin E. It is also a natural antioxidant, so it can be added to other carrier oils to act as a preservative. It is the richest food source we have for vitamin E. Wheatgerm is a cereal grass native to West Asia and is now widely cultivated in subtropical and temperate regions.
(Len & Shirley Price: Carrier Oils for Aromatherapy & Massage 4th Edition) If stored in a cool, dry place, its shelf life can last up to 3 years. Due to the distinct aroma of wheat germ oil, mixing it with other carrier oils and essential oils can affect the overall scent, so it is recommended to blend it with a maximum of 5%. The oil will keep for up to 3 years if kept in a cool, dry place. |
