The word mustard probably comes from the Latin mustum meaning burning must because in France the seed was originally ground in grape must. Mustard oil is cold pressed, has a low saturated fat content and is high in both mono-unsaturated and omega-3 fats. The oil is used in many prescriptions for the treatment of various conditions. Mustard is a rubifacient which means it warms and causes reddening of the skin, it helps treat rheumatism and arthritis, sciatica and other muscular pains due to its analgesic properties. It is also good for poor circulation.
