This relates back to the Bubonic Plague or the more commonly known name the “Black Death” that swept across Europe in the 1400s. The story goes that four thieves were captured and charged because they were stealing from the sick, dead or dying but the thieves did not get ill or contract the Plague and their secret was a mixture of the essential oil. They applied this on their hands, ears, temples, feet & a mask over their mouths to keep them safe from infection. This mixture was then used by “Plague Doctors” who wore mask and robes which were stuffed with this special blend to stop them from getting sick. The four thieves were then hanged but their legacy lived on through this special blend.
